I just finished talking with Aurora’s chef/owner Avner Samuel and, once again, he’s got some big plans in the works. He swore me to secrecy but I crossed my fingers behind my back. All I can say is that he’s making some big ch-ch-ch-changes and it makes me hungry. Now I will sit here at my desk and wait for him to come across the street and hit me over the head with a copper sauce pan for opening my big fat mouth. I just can’t keep a secret. Y’all want to guess?

He’s going to get a concealed-weapon permit, so he can put an end to all those arguments with his kitchen staff and servers?
I would drive across town if he would re-open Cafe Med, a great, inexpensive Mediterranean restaurant that was located at Preston-Royal. I know he’s gone upscale, but I still dream about his hummus, falafel and tahini platter, the crispy moroccan beef cigars, the schnitzel chicken pita sandwich. I can’t bring myself to throw away my old menu in my to-go drawer.
Please, please Avner, feed us your wonderful food at affordable prices!
Lower his prices? Nah. That would be silly in these uncertain economic times.

He has come up with a new happy hour menu, featuring truffle-infused foie gras sliders with pickled Ossetra caviar?
He signed on to play Mel Sharples in a direct-to-video movie based on the sitcom, “Alice”?
The EEOC finally dropped its Title VII claim based on a former female employee who complained of being persistently offered a “Moroccan beef cigar”?
He successfully lobbied the Dallas Morning News into sending Bill Addison back to give Aurora a sixth star?
He just inked a deal to open Aurora Las Vegas in the Tropicana?

He is going to stop screwing over his servers and actaully pay them for tips received. Yes I am bitter. I worked their for two years once and Avner still owes me about 10K. You tell me how a $5,000 tip from a guest turns into $200 each for 5 servers. His abacus must be broken. Maybe they will deport his Armenian ass. Or Maybe the city of Dallas will fianlly bust him for not getting that wine room up to code. For the record, the city never once inspected it. Aurora and Abacus Sucks
Let’s get the record straight. Avner is not Armenian. He is Israeli.
He will finally be investigated and hammered by TABC for gross violations of the laws? Oh, wait, maybe he is going to pay his vendors, that would certainly be something different. Maybe he is going to stop screwing his employees? No, that’s not possible. Oh, I know, he is finally going to leave town since he has burned through every possible investor in town.
What a schmuck.
I have convinced him and Bill Addison to help me open a falafel bar for all those deserving young interns that want to work for me.
