Soft Shell Crabs Are Here

crab.JPGThe good folks at TJ’s Market have a boatload of live soft shell crabs in their cases. It’s a short three-week season so hurry. You don’t have to do anything but pay for them ($7.99 to $9.99 each) and they’ll clean and prepare them for you. Plus, they have tips on cooking them and a couple of delish sounding recipes. • nope, not for me

I’ll eat them at a restaurant any day of the week, but if I bought them I’m pretty sure they’d break free, wander around my house at night while I’m sleeping, crawl up my bed & get me.

    They scare me.

I feel sorry for them and don’t like thinking I am eating the entire body.

I don’t know what kind of press releaae TJ’s sent, but the Gulf Coast (LA, Miss.) soft shell crab season *always& runs from about mid-April thru early October (give or take a week, depending on year).

The season last year was not good, due to cold, windy spring weather (crabs stay hidden), 1/3 of the crabbers still not back from Katrina, and remaining crabbers switching (due to the poor crop) to start shrimping earlier. But it certainly was not a short 3 weeks then, either.
