Jonesing for Salad Kathleen

Every day the good people at Kathleen’s Art Cafe send a mobile waiter carrying a basket stuffed with hearty lunch options to the D offices. I’m on the second floor, which means that by the time I get down to the first floor kitchen there are several hungry people in front of me perusing through the pork loin sandwiches, chunky Caesar salads, slabs of chocolate cake, and most importantly, the Salad Kathleen. It takes a great deal of self control to watch the last Salad Kathleen leave in the hands of a happy co-worker without tackling the skinny thing and running back to my desk in victory. This salad is a masterpiece. It is loaded with crispy green lettuce, peanuts, green olives, smoked chicken, and scallions. Dressed with a Japanese rice wine vinaigrette, the flavors join together to create a tangy, smoky flavor nirvana. I’m so addicted to this salad and have yet to find another that can assuage my daily lunchtime desire. Have a favorite salad? Comments are open.

Breadwinners Pear & Gorgonzola. Love that thick balsamic dressing….

I hate to say it because it’s rather chain-y, but the spinach salad with grilled chicken at Cafe Express. The lemon olive oil dressing is different and just all goes together well.

Also a bit “cahin-y” but I love Baker Bros. Taos Salad. The chopped greens make it easy to eat and the dash of BBQ sauce give it flavor. Runner up is the Chef’s Salad from Snappy Salads. I love balsamic vinaigrette.

Love, love the Al’s Salad at duh, Al’s. It seems light yet filling and I love that there is plenty of crab in it.

It is also good with the tomato dressing, it makes it “tangier”. Ask for Jesse at the bar, he is a rockstar.

Gotta say … for my new semi-veggie diet (fish only, please) my new favorite is The Porch’s Crab & Shrimp Chop (86 the pancetta) - it is totally choice. So fresh. So yummy. Perfect for spring/summer dining.

Also a bit “chain-y”…. The Mangiannos’s Salad w/ Blue Cheese, Proscuitto, and red onions is addictive.

Love the Apple Walnut Salad w/ Chicken at Greenz. The warm brie pastries- YUM! I have to have it at least once a week.

Sevy’s spinach and five grain salad. Clean and delicate, the grains give the dish a satisfying substance and texture.
