DRY Soda: Kumquat

drysoda.jpgJust tried DRY’s Kumquat Soda. 50 calories, 14g of sugar (cane), and only 4 ingredients—all of which you can pronounce. It’s quite nice, and I can see it working well as a tonic substitute for your 4 o’clock fix. Found mine at Central Market Whole Foods on Lemmon Ave. Will have to check out the Rhubarb flavor on my next visit.

I think you mean Whole Foods on Lemmon or Central Market on Lovers.

I’ll have to check this out. I’ve been saying for a while that there should be more sodas that are lightly and naturally sweetened. Mass market sodas are way too sugary for me and diet sodas taste even worse.

Lately, my goto unsweetened soda is Lime LaCroix. Like Sprite, without the cloying aftertaste.

RL: Try Hi-Ball, found at Tom Thumb in the refrigerator case where they have the organic foods. There’s no sugar in it and there’s a variety of flavors. Very nice.

14g of cane sugar and only 50 cals?

Seems low but worth a try.

While I think the Kumquat tastes a bit like spit (sorry, I think Miller Chill tastes the same), the Rhubarb is lovely; it’s what we stock in our house now besides regular pop (soda). This comes from a rhubarb hater! I like the “dry” feeling after drinking, contrasted with the sickly sticky-coated sweetness that comes from regular soda. 60 cal. for the Rhubarb. Looking forward to checking out the Lemongrass and Lavender too.
