Sprinkles Loves Mom and Dad

I love Sprinkles cupcakes. Except during Lent. Just look at these delicious boxes of cupcakes they sent over to the office, and picture the angel and the devil perched on my shoulders, duking it out with their tiny fists.    Anyway, for Mother’s and Father’s Day (May 11 and June 15, respectively), Sprinkles is making personalized cupcake boxes. Mom’s comes with lemon, dark chocolate, red velvet and vanilla, and Dad’s is filled with peanut butter chip, red velvet, black and white, and vanilla milk chocolate. They also have cute stickers on the top of the boxes.

Is there anything in Dallas that compares to Sprinkles in terms of over-hyped and over-priced mediocrity?

They’re *cupcakes*. That taste… okay. Selling for more than $3 apiece.

    I guess I just don’t get it.

Don’t forget that the cupcake itself tends to be dry most times!

Probably mom would love some homemade ones from her son/daughters kitchen better. They would certainly taste much better!! Or try the ones at Starbucks or Kroger for that matter, not like eating cardboard at all.

Yeah, Sprinkles cupcakes are just not good. I’ve tried them 3 different times and each time they were just “eh”. They have the density of mud bricks and way too much icing. Get yourself to Society Bakery for the best cupcakes in town. Especially the red velvet ones. Deeelish.

If I send Side Dish a batch of cupcakes, will you promote my business too?

I bought my mom a MOM box last year. She was excited that I got her Sprinkles, but you should have seen her face light up when she opened the box and saw the word “MOM.” In my opinion, you can’t beat $36 for an original and personal gift the whole family can enjoy.

I finally gave in and bought some sprinkles cupcakes - to see what the fuss was about - Friday (5 for $17) for my daughter’s birthday. It was at the exact same time my wife was buying Tom Thumb cupcakes (12 for $4) for her to take to school. Sure the Sprinkles store is cool, the boxes are neat and stickers are fancy - but the cupcakes are just plain old cupcakes and nothing special at all. A telling point at the end of the evening when 3 of them remained in the box.

Sprinkles are a status symbol, but you have to give them points for being creative in their flavors and having something for everyone. The black & white cupcakes are awesome.
