Sweet Deal at Sweet Tomatoes

I haven’t gotten to eat at Sweet Tomatoes yet, but I might have to make the trek to Addison next month. I like salad. Also, during the month of March, donating $2 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association gets you a bag of free chocolate chip cookies, and a coupon for a free meal. I’m thinking of taking them up on that somewhere around March 14…

Sweet Tomatoes, with one location in north Dallas and a soon-to-open location in Arlington, is offering a sweet deal during the month of March to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). When diners donate $2 to MDA, as a token of thanks they will receive a complimentary bag of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies and a coupon for their next meal at Sweet Tomatoes. “Sweet Tomatoes is not only dedicated to providing delicious food and healthy dining options, but also to supporting the neighborhoods where we live and work,” says Jon Harlig, regional manager. “We are proud to partner with MDA throughout the year in support of the work they do to fight neuromuscular diseases that affect those in our community.” Sweet Tomatoes was founded in 1978 in San Diego, California and currently operates 105 salad buffet-style restaurants across the western, southern and eastern portions of the United States. Sweet Tomatoes features an everyday selection of made-from-scratch soups and salads and hand-crafted muffins, focaccia, breads and desserts. The restaurant is built around freshly made, great-tasting recipes with a 45-foot salad bar full of seasonal vegetables and tossed salads prepared exhibition-style every 20 minutes. Restaurants are open daily for lunch and dinner and also for breakfast on Sunday mornings featuring Belgian waffles, build-your-own breakfast burritos, Tom’s Country Gravy & Buttermilk Biscuits, Egg Scramble Focaccia in addition to everyday selections. Sweet Tomatoes provides its guests with an excellent value by offering unlimited access to its entire menu of high quality fresh items at a fixed price. The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a volunteer healthy agency dedicated to conquering more than 40 neuromuscular diseases that affect a million Americans of all ages. Sweet Tomatoes is located at 15225 Montfort Drive across from Prestonwood Mall, (972) 385-7160. A second Dallas area location will open in March at 4001 Matlock Road in Arlington. Future locations are planned for Irving, Southlake and Plano/Frisco.

It’s a helluva lot better than Soup or Salad. And a helluva lot worse than a $7 salad at a quality fast casual spot.

    What does Mike’s comment mean?

It’s a ‘helluva’ lot better than Souper Salad, which is incidentally owned by the same parent company. Don’t mistake that for there being any similar practices or philosophies - they are two separate companies.

But when it comes down to it - we make a 40 mile pilgrimage to Sweet Tomatoes in Addison as there is no place that you can possibly have a more farm-fresh, healthy all-you-can eat soup, salad and BEVERAGE buffet.

Buffet is such as crass word when it comes to Sweet Tomatoes. It’s a refreshing change.

For anyone that has been to Souper Salad — did you feel that the food tasted refrigerated and kinda old? Did their items attempt to sound tropical or have an international flair but only be a disappointing menu item that failed to do anything but bore you?

Sweet Tomatoes is just plain good and in the article, please note, yes, everything is replaced every 20 minutes. You pay a higher price for a truly fresh experience like this. No soggy salads and no tuna fish pasta salad that you could have made at home with miracle whip, a can of tuna, and some canned peas (thanks Souper Salad)
