I took advantage of the nice weather yesterday and went to Uptown Pub (couldn’t find a link, but it’s the place that used to be Jennivine) to sit on the patio and have a couple beers. We were a little hungry and ordered chips and queso, which were fine (chips plus cheese in a bowl plus beers equals goodness). People around us were eating nachos, cheese fries, etc., and everything looked like pretty decent. It got me thinking: What bar has the best food in Dallas? I know people love the food at the Loon, but I’ve only had drinks there and can’t attest to the food. The food at the Monk is great. Where do Dishers like to eat while they’re drinking?
Cafe Gecko! Either in Addison or Austin Ranch! The blackened chicken nachos rock!
Lakewood Landing has always been good.
TABC, State and Allen, The Loon, Frankie’s, Capitol Pub, Strong’s… its safe to say there’s no shortage in Dallas.
Don’t forget the Libertine Bar. Easily as good as the excellent Old Monk, with a less by-the-numbers (though not truly inventive; that wouldn’t be bar food) menu.
Mediterranean plate is good for munching, the sea bass is quite delicious and the flatiron steak is fabulous for the money. Haven’t had the rest.
Meridian Room is also great (same owners as Libertine). Nothing like the cheese plate and a pint from their extensive beer list.
Vickery Park.
State & Allen has wonderful food and a great atmosphere. They renovated their back room — the Den — in October. Great buffalo chicken sandwich, silver bowl salad (spicy chicken is way good), and a great Sunday brunch menu, too. Awesome patio when the weather is nice — has heaters for the winter, too.
VERY surprisingly, to me, at least, The Barley House serves an excellent cheeseburger. (Not really “bar food,” but still, food in a bar.)
Louies on Henderson - Great Pizza and maybe the best Caeser in town.
