Since reading Stephen’s post, I’ve been sitting here trying to think of something food-related to blog about that happened during my holiday. Sadly, aside from two lunches at Mi Cocina and an embarrassing amount of BBQ in KC, I have to admit–I’ve got nothing. However, I did have an amazing meal on New Years Eve at my friends John and Lilah’s house that’s worth mentioning. The only picture I’ve got for proof is of me sucking down a raw oyster with my new friend Jenny (it was her first time. She’s now a pro) but if you’d like to hear more about it, follow the jump.
We started off with a insanely caloric cheese fondue, which we devoured in the kitchen, hands bumping as we all tried to get more cheese, faster. We then moved to the dining room and had three raw oysters each–bluepoints, were one of the kinds, can’t remember the others, with a lovely mignonette. That was followed by an avocado, butter lettuce and grapefruit salad, a New Orleans family favorite of Lilah’s. The main course was a decadent beef wellington, au gratin potatoes, and croissants. Dessert (provided by Jenny) was peppermint ice cream with fudge sauce. I’ll be surprised if anyone had a better meal than I did…yes, that’s a challenge.
